Week 7 Assignment #5

I did the 4 assessments on Chava a 2nd grader. What is very interesting about Chava is that she is a very strong student who taught herself how to read at a very young age. She is a fairly fluent reader and can read books at a pretty high level, however she is missing a lot of skills that students gain from the in class lessons as will be seen in the results below: Print Awareness:  Chava has great print awareness. She was able to locate the title of the book and the author. She was able to count words in a sentence and how many sentences were on the page. She was able to locate the beginning of the pages and was able to locate a specific word when I gave her directions. The only term Chava was not aware of was paragraph. I would continue to point out all the different important parts of the book and include paragraph. She is a bright child and I am sure she will catch on quickly. Week 5

Assignment #1: Mary seems to be reading pretty independently on level one. She has a hard time reading the "r" blend words such as brain and afraid. Assignment #2: She seems to be instructional level for this list as well. Assignment #3: Level 3 seems to be her frustration level. I would start to practice and teach at this level. Assignment #4: Mary seemed to be pretty comfortable on level two she did a lot of self correcting and only made 3 errors. She was also able to do a pretty good job on the retelling as well. I think I would say that Mary is on a third grade level.
