Hello everyone! If I had to name a book about myself I would call it 7 eleven, because I am the seventh child in a family of 11 children. This has rounded me as a person and made me who I am today. This is my second year being an assistant in an inclusive preschool. The class covers many pre-literacy, math and science skills. As well as self help and social skills. This is my third semester in NYIT and I am enjoying each and every course and gaining so much! I already took one course on literacy during my first semester and I learned a lot for the course work and my field work for that course. I also learned about new literacies in other courses and am looking forward to furthering my knowledge in this area. My only real concern is that I should be able to keep up and get the maximum out of all the information we are learning while keeping up with my work responsibilities.

Week 7 Assignment #5

I did the 4 assessments on Chava a 2nd grader. What is very interesting about Chava is that she is a very strong student who taught herself how to read at a very young age. She is a fairly fluent reader and can read books at a pretty high level, however she is missing a lot of skills that students gain from the in class lessons as will be seen in the results below: Print Awareness:  Chava has great print awareness. She was able to locate the title of the book and the author. She was able to count words in a sentence and how many sentences were on the page. She was able to locate the beginning of the pages and was able to locate a specific word when I gave her directions. The only term Chava was not aware of was paragraph. I would continue to point out all the different important parts of the book and include paragraph. She is a bright child and I am sure she will catch on quickly.
