Week 4 Assignment 2

Here is my reading intervention video .

Week 4 Assignment 1

RTI is an assessing and intervention method used to help ensure no student gets left behind. It is a five step program of assessment, intervention based on each child's needs. Included in the instruction is three different tiers. The first tier is instruction for all students. The second is additional support for students who are not on par with the rest of the class and need a little extra support. This usually includes a half hour of extra instruction in small groups.  Last there is tier three where students receive additional help, usually one on one. Before giving a child another tier of instruction there is always testing and discussion. I think that one of the key factors in executing the RTI method is collaboration between all teacher. An important part of the success of RTI is the continuity of their whole education which is only possible with collaboration. The collaboration and meeting between teachers is also important to pinpoint the point of difficulty and the best nex...

Week 3 Assignment 3

What is QRI5? An informal reading assessment tool.  What is the purpose of using QRI5? It can be used to determine a child's reading level, place the child in an appropriate reading group, choose a appropriate reading material for the student, track growth and much more. It is also helpful tool when planning lessons.  Have you seen similar assessment activities like QRI5? What are they? I have never observed or seen to many assessment acitvities.  What is your impression of QRI5? I think it is really helpful on so many levels for teachers of students of all ages. It is seems very clear and easy to use. It also seems simple to analyze the results and use them to determine the next step. I hope to use QRI5 as a literacy teacher.

Week 3 Assignment 2

The group activities discussed in the CCSS toolkit were amazing ideas of how to implement the standards and cover many areas at one time. I think the key of assessment in such assignments includes a variety of assessment tools. Firstly, I think informal assessment that has clear goals in mind is very helpful. For example, the teacher can observe a group and look out for three things. They can look for participation, level of understanding through the way the student responds and the way the children are able to work together. The teacher can also create a rubric that the students receive before beginning the assignment and use that to grade the final product in a more formal way. In regards to the different reading levels with in a class, I think that using ones knowledge about the levels of the students to create groups, hand out topics etc is important.

Introduction

Here is the link to my voki:  http://tinyurl.com/y8485fw7   Hello everyone! If I had to name a book about myself I would call it 7 eleven, because I am the seventh child in a family of 11 children. This has rounded me as a person and made me who I am today. This is my second year being an assistant in an inclusive preschool. The class covers many pre-literacy, math and science skills. As well as self help and social skills. This is my third semester in NYIT and I am enjoying each and every course and gaining so much! I already took one course on literacy during my first semester and I learned a lot for the course work and my field work for that course. I also learned about new literacies in other courses and am looking forward to furthering my knowledge in this area. My only real concern is that I should be able to keep up and get the maximum out of all the information we are learning while keeping up with my work responsibilities.  Looking forward to a gre...

Week 2 Assignment 3

I learned so much from the reading rockets website. There were a few specific ideas that I really like and I hope to use in my classroom. I really love the second to last video about the writing workshop. the teacher creates such an a great community where students gain important skills from one another. I love the different methods she uses to teach a skill and the way she varies the activities so students become very comfortable with an idea without getting bored. Another amazing thing she did is the way she participated in the activity and did the writing assignments along with the children. Another one of my favorite methods is the jigsaw method. I love it mainly for the way it involves the students and allows them to become active learners. I think giving students the feeling that they are responsible for the learning of others is a great way to motivate and encourage them to give the work their all. Students will also feel important and mature with the given responsibility. Last...
